National Desk:
India has 63 of the most polluted cities in the world. Such information came up in a report on world air quality by a Swedish company called IQ Air. The average level of air pollution is 56.1 micrograms per cubic meter, which is 10 times higher than normal according to the World Health Organization (WHO) air quality guidelines. Almost no Indian city in the report is below WHo's air pollution standards.
However, the situation in North India is the worst, the report said. Also this year, Delhi topped the list of the most polluted capitals in the world. Compared to the previous year, the level of pollution in Delhi has increased by about 15 percent this year. The amount of pollution in Delhi is about 20 times more than WH0's air quality measure. According to WHO's air quality measure, the level of pollutant in every cubic meter of air should be 5 micrograms. But in Delhi the amount is 97.4 micrograms.
However, Delhi is at the top of all the world's capitals but at number four in terms of the most polluted cities in the world. However, Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, a city in India, has also been named the most polluted place in the world. This is followed by Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Even 10 of the top 15 most polluted cities in the world are located in India. Apart from Delhi, Bhiwadi and Ghaziabad, the list also includes Jaunpur, Noida, Baghpat, Rohtak and Hisar.
However, most of the 63 most polluted cities are in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
