At least 11 people, including two children, were killed and 12 others admitted to hospital after being exposed to poisonous gas in the densely populated Gyaspura area of ​​Punjab's Ludhiana district on Sunday.  Four of them remain in critical condition.  Gas leakage continued till late evening after the accident in a residential area on 33 Futa Road in Ludhiana.  DC Surbhi Malik said the investigation revealed that industrial chemicals were poured into the sewerage line.  This produced hydrogen sulfide gas, which caused the accident.  Late in the evening, police have registered a case of manslaughter against the unidentified person.
NDRF teams evacuated the affected area after the incident.  The 300-metre area has been sealed off.  NDRF teams continued their rescue operation till late evening.  The poisonous gas leaked from a sewerage line near Goyal Kirana in the area.  A magisterial inquiry into the accident has been ordered.  The government has announced Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the affected.
