National Desk:
Dibrugarh jail, which became Amritpal's residence, know how tidy the system is!
Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh was arrested by Punjab police from Rode village on Sunday. He is being held in Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam. Amritpal has been taken into custody under the NSA, police said. The place where Amritpal is kept has three layer security.
Amritpal Singh, a pro-Khalistani and head of the 'Waris Punjab De' organisation, was sent to Dibrugarh Central Jail in Assam immediately after his arrest. Many of Amritpal's supporters are already in the same jail. Then questions are being raised as to what is in Dibrugarh jail that is sending all the Sikh fundamentalists away from Punjab.
The biggest reason for this is law and order. In fact, there was a fear that keeping Amritpal or his other associates in a jail in Punjab would deteriorate the atmosphere.
Think of it as the Punjab police detaining Amritpal's supporter Lovepreet Singh Toofan. Lovepreet was detained at Ajnala police station. Amritpal and his supporters then attacked the Ajnala police station. Finally, the police had to release Lovepreet.
According to Assam Police, Dibrugarh Central Jail has a capacity of 680 prisoners. But as of March 15, 2023, there are 420 prisoners.
Amritpal along with nine of his accomplices are being held in Dibrugarh Central Jail. They include Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjeet Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Basant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla.
All of them are in custody under the NSA. Under this law, the accused can be detained for up to three months. Later, they can be detained for three months each and up to one year.
