News Desk:
Indian Railways is constantly working to improve the facilities.  The Railways has also gifted Meghalaya with its first electric train.  This will benefit the people of North East India.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his happiness over the matter.  The North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) on March 15 completed the electrification work on the single line between Pancharatna and Dudhanai-Mendipathar (22.823 km) and the double line between Abhayapuri-Pancharatna double-line (34.59 km).
Mendipathar is currently the only railway station in the northeastern state of Meghalaya, which has been operational since 2014 after being inaugurated by the Prime Minister, the Railways said.  With the commissioning of electric traction, trains powered by electric locomotives will now be able to operate directly from Mendipathar in Meghalaya, increasing the average speed.
