Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Shivamogga airport on 27 February. Shivamogga airport will be named after poet Kuvempu. Rashtra Kavi Kuvempu has been honored with the prestigious Gyan Peeth Award. He has also been given the Padma Vibhushan and Karnataka Ratna awards. Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said in Shivamogga on Sunday that the state government would send a proposal to the Center to name the Shivamogga airport after the poet and the first Kannadiga to receive the Jnanpith award.
Yediyurappa said he would table a proposal to name the airport at Kuvempu in the assembly on Monday. He said, 'We will pass the resolution unanimously during the session and send the proposal.'
