National Desk:
This is going to happen for the third time in the history of the Supreme Court, when a women's bench will hear. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Wednesday constituted a bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Bela M Trivedi. This bench will hear petitions related to matrimonial disputes and cases related to case transfer.
A bench comprising Justices Kohli and Trivedi has 32 matters listed, including 10 transfer petitions related to matrimonial disputes and 10 matters related to bail. Please tell that at present there are only three women judges in the Supreme Court. These include Justice Kohli, Justice BV Nagaratna and Justice Bela M Trivedi.
For the first time in the history of the Supreme Court, a women's bench was formed in 2013. At that time Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra and Ranjana Prakash Desai were on the bench. This happened for the second time in 2018, when Justices R Banumathi and Indira Banerjee shared a bench.
Let us tell you that in 2020, Chief Justice of Madras High Court Amareshwar Pratap Sahi constituted a full-time women's bench for the first time, in which all three judges were women.
