The Center has said steps will be taken to enact laws against forced conversion. The central government filed its reply in the Supreme Court on Monday. The central government has responded by filing a reply to petitions relating to forced conversions. The Center has said the government is aware of the seriousness of the issue. The Center in its reply said that the fundamental right to freedom of religion does not include the right to convert others.
In fact, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking legislation against forced conversion. The petition demands the Center and the states to enact laws to take strict measures to prevent conversion through force or fraud. A bench of Justice Shah and Justice Hima Kohli is hearing the petition. Petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay claims that the problem is all over the country.
The last hearing in the case was held on November During the hearing, the Supreme Court made an important remark. "This is a very serious case," Justice MR Shah said in the SC. Everyone has the right to choose their religion but not by forced conversion. This is very dangerous.
