Kapil Sibal on Assam: Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Kapil Sibal has created controversy after his comments regarding Assam.  Senior advocate Kapil Sibal told the Supreme Court on Friday that Assam was originally a part of Myanmar.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal had given this information in the Supreme Court during the hearing of petitions challenging Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 in the apex court.
Actually, these days there is a debate going on in Assam regarding Section 6A.  In such a situation, many petitioners had challenged Section 6A of the Citizenship Act 1955 in the Supreme Court.  On which the bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and four other judges was hearing.
In such a situation, now senior lawyer Kapil Sibal made a big claim about Assam and said that it used to be a part of Myanmar.
He told the Supreme Court on the complexity of tracing the population throughout history, "Even throughout history, people have been moving into Assam and it cannot be mapped separately. If you look at the history of Assam, it will appear that  "It is very difficult to trace the people coming in."
He told the court that if we talk before 1824, Assam was a part of Myanmar.  After this, when the British occupied some part of this region, a treaty was made by which Assam was handed over to the British.  You can imagine what kind of demonstration the people there could have demonstrated against the British Empire at that time."
