Mizoram chief minister's younger brother has been sentenced to one year in jail for money laundering

A special court in Aizawl on Tuesday convicted and sentenced six people, including Mizoram Chief Minister Joramthanga's younger brother C Vanlalchuana, in a money laundering case.
They were accused of conspiring to issue fake land passes, issuing fake village council land passes and cheating the authorities for the purpose of obtaining compensation.
Six guilty persons allegedly illegally embezzled millions of rupees in compensation for properties flooded during the construction of the North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) Limited’s 60-megawatt Tuirial Hydroelectric Project.
The court acquitted former Assistant Deputy Commissioners of Aizawl district and current directors of the state's urban development and poverty alleviation department H Liangela and Lalrinsanga.
