National Desk:
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is all set to change course after a decade.  According to Rangan Banerjee, the new director of IIT, all the courses will be reformed.  Banerjee told PTI that the knowledge and technology landscape is changing rapidly, making it very important to match the curriculum, so IIT-Delhi has constituted a review panel to update the curriculum of all courses.
Rangan Banerjee, a former IIT-Bombay professor and director of IIT Delhi, told the agency that it took years for IITs to develop until engineering institutions became full-fledged universities.  Since its inception, around 54,000 students have obtained bachelor's degrees from IIT-Delhi in a range of disciplines, including engineering, physical sciences, management, humanities and social sciences.
“We are thoroughly reviewing our curriculum so that we can enhance the student experience.  Which is being done after more than a decade.  In the past several years, IITs have evolved from primarily undergraduate and engineering institutions to full-fledged.  Over the years, IITs have grown from being primarily undergraduate and engineering institutions to full-fledged universities with a wide range of courses."
“We are trying to give our curriculum, challenges and opportunities to the students to connect with the real world and hence there is a need for a complete change,” says Banerjee.  Hopefully next year we will see many changes.  Right now we are having extensive discussions with the faculty, students and alumni.  He said, 'The curriculum will have to be constantly updated to make it relevant and our school teaching and practical module will have to be worked on.'  Banerjee said the institute is focusing on ways to increase the impact of its research.
