L R Srihari became India's 86th Grandmaster

Tamil Nadu's LR Srihari on Thursday became India's latest and 86th Grandmaster. The Chennai player had crossed the 2500 Elo rating (live) at the Dubai Open in May last year. He will get his first GM norm at the SixDays Budapest GM Round-Robin in August 2023 and the second at the 2023 Qatar Masters.

It took Srihari a year and almost nine tournaments to struggle to achieve the final GM norm before he finally achieved it at the ongoing Asian Individual Championships in Al-Ain (Abu Dhabi).
