Indira Gandhi took oath as the woman Prime Minister on 24 January 1966, hence 24 January is celebrated as National Girl Child Day in India. Celebrating National Girl Child Day in India was started in the year 2008 by the Ministry of Women Welfare and Child Development because for the first time in the history of India, a woman had become the Prime Minister of the country, which was a step towards women empowerment. There was a revolutionary change.
