University Grants Commission (UGC): The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked universities to appoint an ombudsman and implement other provisions of the UGC regulations by December 31, 2023. After December 31, the UGC will release the names of those defaulting universities which fail to appoint an ombudsman and comply with other provisions of the ombudsman.
According to its latest notice issued on December 5, UGC said that all universities are required to follow the rules by appointing an ombudsman and constituting a Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC).
UGC Secretary Manish R Joshi, in his letter to the vice-chancellors of central, state, private and deemed universities, said, "However, it is understood that some universities are still yet to comply with the rules. The matter is being looked into seriously."
"Since adequate opportunities have been given to the universities, it has been decided to release the names of the default universities on the UGC website after December 31, 2023," the UGC notice said.
Also, the notice states that if any default university wishes to make a representation against the inclusion of its name in the list of default universities, it should submit the same to the Secretary, UGC, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi – 110002 before December 31, 2023.
Further, the UGC has directed all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to implement the advisory prepared by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for the protection of children's rights against production, distribution and consumption of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). Said for.
In a letter addressed to all universities and colleges, UGC Secretary Manoj Joshi said information on the NHRC advisory issued in October should be disseminated and its recommendations should be implemented. He asked higher education institutions about the action taken on this matter.
