Taking steps towards becoming a green state, Himachal Pradesh is now moving towards making the villages energy self-sufficient.
Raja Khas village located in Indora block of Kangra district of the state is now going to become Himachal's first solar model village. The decision to convert this village with a population of more than 2000 into a model village based on solar energy was taken in the district level coordination committee meeting on May 27.
Under this scheme, all the public places of the village - such as Chaupal, Panchayat Ghar, school, health institute, Anganwadi and other government buildings - will be operated with solar energy. For this, the government will give a special grant of Rs 1 crore to the village.
Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that "Raja Khas has been selected on the basis of doing the maximum solar installations in a six-month long competition among 43 villages. This will be the first solar model village of the state."
