International Desk:
The war between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for more than 10 months.  Meanwhile, Putin praised the Russian Orthodox Church for supporting the troops in Ukraine.  The Kremlin released Putin's message after the Russian leader attended Orthodox Christmas Eve celebrations inside the cathedral.  In his message, Putin made it clear that he saw Russian Orthodox Christians as an integral part of the society.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a 36-hour ceasefire for Orthodox Christmas celebrations.  But Ukraine had told Russia's move to organize its army.
According to a BBC report, more than 200 million Christians worldwide are associated with the Orthodox Church.  Most of them celebrate Christmas on 7th January as they follow the Julian calendar.  Most of the Orthodox Christians are located in Eastern Europe.  Orthodox Christians believe that Christianity and the Church cannot be separated and that one cannot be called a Christian without knowing Jesus Christ and participating in the Church.  Those who believe in the Orthodox Church follow it by believing in orthodox practices.  Orthodox Christians consider Jesus Christ as the head of the Church.
