Indian armed forces utilised the Russian-made S-400 missile defence system to successfully intercept Pakistani drone and missile attacks during the recent cross-border tensions under Operation Sindoor.
The failed military action was attempted by the neighbouring country after India carried out precision strikes to target nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor.
In the wake of the intense exchange by militaries, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is making advances in its efforts to come up with a S400-type indigenous long-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system as part of Project Kusha.
The prototype for the same is aimed for completion in the next 12 to 18 months. Once this is done, it will be followed by the user trails that can last for another 12 to 36 months.
