Worlddesk:
UNESCO's World Heritage Committee on Saturday decided to register Japan's controversial Sado gold mine as a cultural heritage site.  The decision is a sign of improving relations between Tokyo and Seoul.
Located on an island off the coast of Niigata in northern Japan, the mine operated for 400 years and was the world’s largest gold producer before it closed in 1989.
It is also linked to Japan's mistreatment of Korean workers during the war. Similarly, historical sites associated with Nelson Mandela in South Africa have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
