Uttar Pradesh government has launched two schemes to increase green cover in the state

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government has launched the Upvan and Heritage Forest Scheme in an effort to increase greenery, improve groundwater levels and create a sense of pride in heritage in the state.
 Under the Upvan Yojana, the state government is providing plants for planting in parks, roadsides and other places from cities to villages.  According to state government officials, the scheme aims to increase greenery, which will ultimately lead to benefits such as improving groundwater levels, better environment and reduced climate impact.
 The state government has allocated an annual budget of Rs 70 crore for the Upvan Yojana.
 In an effort to preserve the cultural heritage of the state, the government will nurture 948 heritage trees through the ‘Heritage Tree Adoption Scheme’.  28 species of trees more than 100 years old have been designated as ‘heritage trees’.
