Papua New Guinea appoints Colonel Addison Nepyo as Defense Advisor for India

In a significant development, Papua New Guinea (PNG) has appointed Colonel Addison Nepyo as India's first Defense Advisor.  He replaced Acting Chief of Defense Staff Commodore Philip Polevara.  According to a statement issued by the Office of the Papua New Guinea Chief of Defense Forces, Nepyo will serve as a link to the PNG government and military in the country.This comes as the Indo-Philippines BrahMos deal has been finalised  And China is trying to increase its presence in the Pacific region.  PM Modi visited PNG last year.  On his farewell, Commodore Polewara presented Colonel Nepyo with the PNG flag and urged him to represent the country well.  He urged Colonel Nepyo to provide an effective link between the armed forces, so that opportunities for training and diplomatic engagements could be realized.  Also, be implemented effectively.
