Mirabai Chanu, who underwent rehabilitation after being badly injured in the Hangzhou Asian Games, made a comeback in the World Cup on Monday and confirmed her ticket to the Paris Olympics. Mira lifted weight in an international event for the first time since the Asian Games in October last year. Mira started with a very low weight as per strategy and lifted a total of 184 kg and passed five lifts. However, she finished third in Group B. It was mandatory for Mira to participate in this tournament to get a ticket to Paris.
If playing here was not mandatory, Meera would not have played in the World Cup. She started lifting weights a few weeks back after getting her injury treated in America. According to coach Vijay Sharma's strategy, she cannot be given more weight to lift at once. Vijay said that everything went according to the strategy and he is satisfied with Meera's performance. Meera's best is 205 kg, but she was given 75, 79, 81 kg in snatch and 98, 103, 106 kg in clean and jerk. She also lifted a weight of 106, but it was declared disqualified.
