Famous writer of PAK origin Tariq Fateh, self-proclaimed 'son of India and lion of Punjab' passes away

Pakistani-born Canadian writer and columnist Tarek Fatah died Monday.  He was 73 years old.  He had been battling illness for a long time.  His daughter Natasha confirmed Tariq's death.
 Tariq's daughter Natasha tweeted, "The lion of Punjab.  Hindustan ka beta.  Lover of Canada.  Advocate of truth.  Fighting for justice.  The voice of the oppressed and exploited.  Tariq Fateh has passed the baton of his revolution.  His revolution will continue with all who knew and loved him.
 Tariq Fateh was born on November 20, 1949 in Karachi.  His family was from Bombay (now Mumbai), but moved to Karachi after partition.  He studied biochemistry at Karachi University, but later turned to journalism.
 He reported for the Karachi Sun in 1970 before doing investigative journalism for a Pakistani TV channel.  He went to jail twice.  He later left Pakistan and settled in Saudi Arabia.  In 1987, Fateh moved to Canada.
 Fateh was known for its progressive views on Islam and its tough stance on Pakistan.  He has also supported the BJP-led NDA government on several occasions.
