National Desk:
On the shortage of space in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Chandrachud said he was planning to overcome the shortage of space in the court by constructing a new annex building.  He also said that the primary task in the new building being designed by the PWD is to provide adequate space to the most important stakeholders of the legal institution, i.e. lawyers and plaintiffs.
The Chief Justice said, “I am aware of the fact that the Bar desperately needs more space, therefore, I asked the PWD that we must first and foremost, have adequate facilities for the Supreme Court Bar Association for SCAORA .  There are also some women who are members of both associations.  I believe women need their own space, so we should have enough space for the Women’s Bar Association.”
The CJI also said that the PWD has been directed to ensure that the entire building is air-conditioned.  They're also looking for technological ways to get to the court's extremely hot corridors.  A waiting area for lawyers and plaintiffs is also required on each floor.  This will prevent people coming to the court from facing crowds.  People will be able to sit outside the court and wait for their case to be heard.  This will also enable lawyers to do their jobs comfortably.
“Often members of the bar come to meet me,” said CJI Chandrachud.  Whether it’s SCBA or SCAORA.  I met with the representatives of SCAORA just last week and when they presented their demands to me I told them that I cannot say no to any of the demands of the bar, because I also have an advocate inside of me saying how justified these demands are  But for the past five months, I have also had a Chief Justice with an institutional perspective at heart.  There’s a bit of a conflict inside me sometimes as a lawyer and an institutional head and I try to balance the two perspectives.”
