National Desk:
A man has been arrested for smoking on an Indigo flight from Assam to Bangalore.  The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Sehri Chaudhary.  He is a resident of Govindpura village in Kachar district of Assam.  He was caught smoking in the toilet by flight crew.
The man was handed over to the police as soon as the flight landed at Kempegowda International Airport.  The accused passenger has been placed in judicial custody and sent to Parappana Agrahara Jail Central Jail.  He has been charged with endangering the lives of other passengers.  A case has been registered against him under Section 336 of the IPC and Section 3(1)(c) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act.
The accused stated in his statement that he had a cigarette in his bag when the luggage was searched, which he kept in his trouser pocket after boarding the flight.  To this, the police say the cigarettes, no matter how deeply pocketed, are easily detected during bag checks.  In this case, not being able to trace the cigarettes during airport baggage check is a major lapse in security.
Police said the accused was an assistant manager at a clothing store in a mall in Bengaluru.  He left Bengaluru last year and settled in his home-town.  He was going back to Bangalore in the hope of getting a new job.
