National Desk:
Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju today attended the India Today Conclave. During this time, he expressed his candid views on issues ranging from the judiciary to the collegium system. He also lashed out at Rahul Gandhi. He said that accountability of courts is one issue and Laxman Rekha is another. “I have received a lot of suggestions and feedback on the accountability of judges because you know that judges are not accountable to anyone.
Rijiju said that ,“The issue of judges' leave was raised in Parliament last year. The question was why do judges constantly go on vacation? I then, as a minister had responded but the next day a newspaper reported that the law minister was saying that judges should not go on holiday…. These debates have reached the judiciary and it was said that the law minister does not want to allow judges to take leave. I didn't say anything. The court should absolutely take a holiday but it is a fact that it will pending court cases. Certainly there could be some regulation regarding it. I believe judges absolutely need time off. From morning till evening, he hears 50-60 cases. He also performs many administrative duties. Judicial and administrative duties put them under considerable mental pressure and require leave to spend with their families. In many cases, judges hear 100 cases a day.'
