Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been named the Governor of the Year for 2023 by the International Economic Research Journal Central Banking. Das has received the award for his steady leadership in difficult times. The Central Bank of the Year award went to the National Bank of Ukraine.
Das faced challenges ranging from the bankruptcy of the large non-banking firm IL&FS to the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under Das’s leadership, the RBI implemented critical reforms, launched innovative payment systems and delivered growth-supportive measures during the pandemic.
