News Desk:
There has been a hearing in the Supreme Court on Same Sex Marriage.  The Center has opposed it through its affidavit.  It has been asserted that it is not in consonance with the social morality and Indian ethos (nature or nature).  Now Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has given his views on this issue.  It has been clearly said from his side that the government is not against anyone's rights, but when it comes to marriage, then it becomes a matter of policy.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government is not interfering in anyone's personal life or its activities.  Personal liberty has never been questioned or the government has imposed any restrictions on it.  But when it comes to marriage, it is a policy matter which needs to be discussed.  Now this statement matters because the center has opposed the same sex marriage by the Supreme Court.  He has told it against society, culture.  Representing the Centre, the SG told the Supreme Court that we (Centre) have stated in the affidavit that the legal understanding of marriage in the Indian statutory and personal law regime refers only to marriage between a biological man and a biological woman.  Any interference in this would lead to the destruction of the delicate balance of personal laws and accepted social values.  Earlier during the hearing, the Center said that this matter is under the jurisdiction of the Parliament.  That's why the matter can be debated in the Parliament itself.
