International Desk:
India's crude oil imports from Russia reached a record 1.6 lakh barrels per day in February.  India is continuously importing large quantities of crude oil from Russia.  Iraq and Saudi Arabia have traditionally been India's biggest suppliers.  But since last year, India has turned towards Russia.  Because of this traditional suppliers have been left behind.  Russia remained the biggest supplier of crude, which is converted into petrol and diesel at refineries, for the fifth month in a row, according to energy cargo tracker Vortexa.
Russia is giving discount on its oil prices.  Because of this, Indian refiners are importing oil in abundance.  Before the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, the share of Russian oil in India's import basket was less than one per cent.  But in February 2023, the share increased to 35 per cent and the daily import figure increased to 1.62 per lakh barrels.
