Gauhati HC allows 'Non-Collegiate' students to appear examinations

Gauhati High Court on January 27, 2023, instructed the authorities of Bishnu Ram Medhi Government Law College to allow two students to sit in the three-year LLB 5th semester examinations who were categorised as 'non-collegiate' in October 2022 for not depositing admission fees, as per reports.
In September 2022, the college notified its students that the admission fee was enhanced by ₹2000 as an affiliation fee to Gauhati University and Bar Council fee as a one-time increase. The last date for payment of the admission fee was notified to be September 30, 2022. Later the last date was extended to October 29, 2022, media reported.
On December 2022, the college authorities categorised the students as 'non-collegiate', as the petitioners, Kalyan Buragohain and Robibul Hussain deposited the fee on October 31, 2022.
