Delhi Women's Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal has issued a notice to Flipkart and Amazon for selling acid through their online platforms.  Swati Maliwal has issued a notice after the case of acid attack on a girl came to light in Delhi.
A 17-year-old girl was attacked with acid by two bike-borne men in west Delhi on Wednesday.Two masked men on a motorcycle threw acid on the Class 12 student minutes after she left her west Delhi home for school, leaving her seriously injured. Three people, including the prime accused, have been arrested.
The main accused, Sachin Arora, was in a relationship with the teen and attacked the girl after their break up three months ago, the police said. He ordered the acid online from Flipkart, they added.
Swati Maliwal in the notice asked the sites why acid is available on their shopping platforms and whether the license of the seller was checked before posting their product on the site. She asked the sites to provide a copy of the license obtained by the platform to sell acid on their sites.
The Delhi Police will also issue a notice to Flipkart on the sale of acid on its platform. The police will find out whether Flipkart followed the guidelines while selling acid and if the official identity card of the accused was used or not.
