National Desk:
Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M Trivedi has recused herself from hearing the plea of Gujarat riots victim Bilkis Bano challenging the premature release of 11 convicts in the rape and murder case.  As soon as the hearing of the case began on Tuesday before a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Justice Bela M Trivedi, Justice Rastogi said that his sister Justice Trivedi did not want to hear the matter.
Simultaneously, a bench headed by Justice Rastogi ordered the matter to be listed before a bench comprising neither of the judges.  However, the bench did not give any reason for recusing from Justice Trivedi's case.
Let me tell you, Bilkis Bano has filed two petitions in the Supreme Court.  In the first petition, she has sought review of the apex court's May 13, 2022 order on a convict's plea.  The court, in its order, had asked the Gujarat government to consider the plea for premature release of the convicts under a policy dated July 9, 1992.
In the second petition, she has challenged the Gujarat government's decision to release the convicts.  On which hearing was to be held tommorow in the bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice Bela M Trivedi, but Justice Trivedi recused himself from the hearing.
