National Desk:
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud called upon senior members of the Bar to treat their juniors well and take immediate action regarding their salaries.  He also asked in an event organized by the Bar Council of India that how many seniors give good salary to their juniors.
CJI DY Chandrachud said, how many junior lawyers are there, who have no place of their own to sit, no chair.  He further said, if you live in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore, how much will it cost for a young lawyer to live.  He is under pressure to meet the house rent, transportation and food expenses.  Reiterating the point of giving protection to juniors, he said, we should think about the salary of young lawyers.  Some changes are needed.  The CJI said, being senior, the burden of doing so is on us.
The CJI said, our profession often has a tradition of treating junior lawyers as their slaves.  This is because this is how we have progressed.  He further said, "But now we cannot tell Junior how to proceed."
