Retired IAS Arun Goyal appointed as Election Commissioner, approved by the President

Retired IAS Arun Goyal has been appointed as the Election Commissioner in the Election Commission.  President Draupadi Murmu has given her consent to this.  However, the date of his appointment has not been decided yet.
His appointment as the Election Commissioner has been announced when the assembly elections in Gujarat are due to be held next month itself.  Assembly elections are to be held in Gujarat from December 1 to December 5.  At the same time, its results will be declared on December 8.
Significantly, Arun Goyal is a 1985 batch IAS officer.  He was about to retire on December 31, 2022, after attaining the age of 60 years, but a month ago he resigned from his post on November 18 i.e. yesterday itself.
