SPORTS DESK:
Former Indian captain Bhaichung Bhutia has approached the Supreme Court in the interests of Indian football.  He has applied in support of the recent reforms of the Supreme Court for elections to the General Assembly (GB) of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
In an intervention application filed through advocate Purnima Krishna, Bhutia has said that the suspension of FIFA cannot thwart the much needed reforms in Indian football.  Switching back to the current system would allow vested interests of a few to hold on to the AIFF for 4 years.  Which will damage the game.
Bhutia said- 'The draft of the Committee of Administrators (COA) should be adopted as the new constitution of AIFF.  It is of interest to current and former football players.  The inclusion of former players in the GB would be a violation of FIFA rules.  Which is wrong.'
 Currently suspended Indian Football Association::
 FIFA has suspended the Football Association of India.  Due to which the hosting of FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2022 has come under threat.
 The COA had approached the Supreme Court seeking contempt proceedings against the office bearers of 7 other state associations, including former AIFF president Praful Patel.  Then the apex court had on August 3 ordered that the elections for an interim body to head the AIFF be held expeditiously in accordance with the draft constitution.

 The court had rejected requests by state associations to debar individual eminent sportspersons from voting and made it clear that players with international experience would be allowed to vote, be part of executive and general committees.
