Swedish pole vault star Mondo Duplantis was named World Athletes of the Year on Sunday.
Duplantis retained his gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo in September and continued his dominance in the event. He broke his own world record four times in a year and remained undefeated in 16 competitions throughout the season.
The 26-year-old also won his fifth consecutive Diamond League title. "I will continue to strive to improve myself. I hope I can continue to trouble those who voted for me in the years to come. This award is special to me and I will cherish it very much," Duplantis said, as quoted by World Athletics.
