China on Monday began military drills in the Gulf of Tonkin, located in the northern region of the South China Sea. China has taken this step after Vietnam announced a new boundary line in the waters it claims in the South China Sea.
China's Maritime Safety Administration said, the military drills will focus on the Beibu Bay area close to the Chinese part of the Gulf of Tonkin and was continue until Thursday evening. Several Chinese warships and patrol boats are involved in this military drill. Vietnam has not publicly reacted to the Chinese military drills. There is a long-standing maritime agreement between China and Vietnam regarding the control of the Gulf of Tonkin.
