The Greek parliament today elected Konstantinos Thassoulas, a leading figure in the ruling conservative New Democracy party, as president of Greece, a largely ceremonial position.
Konstantinos Tassulas will succeed Katerina Sakellaropoulou, the first woman elected to the position five years ago, whose term expires in mid-March.
Tasulas, a former speaker of parliament, was elected with a majority of 160 votes out of a total of 300 members of parliament.
