Kolkata is the headquarters of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. Its name has been changed from Fort William to Vijay Durg. The Modi government is engaged in its efforts to free the country from colonial symbols. This news has been given by Subhro Neogi and Tamghna Banerjee. Wing Commander Himanshu Tiwari, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Defense, Kolkata, told on Tuesday that the decision to change the name was taken in mid-December.
Himanshu Tewari said, "The order came in the second week of December, but its formal announcement is yet to be made. In our internal communications, we have stopped using Fort William."
