Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep has retired from tennis. Halep announced her retirement on Tuesday after losing in the first round of the Transylvania Open in Romania. She was defeated by Italy's Lucia Bronzetti 6-1, 6-1.
26-year-old Halep told her home fans, 'I don't know if I am making this announcement with sadness or happiness. I think I am feeling both, but I have found peace with this decision. I have always been realistic. My body is no longer the same. Even though my performance was not good. I wanted to say goodbye to tennis by playing in front of you.'
