The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has constituted a three-member judicial committee headed by retired Justice Harsh Kumar of the Allahabad High Court to probe the stampede incident at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on January 29, 2025. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, 30 people were killed and 60 injured in the stampede that occurred in the early morning on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya (new moon day) on January 29, 2025. The three-member inquiry committee comprises Justice (Retd) Harsh Kumar, former Director General of Police V K Gupta and retired IAS officer D K Singh. The commission will probe the causes and circumstances that led to the stampede and recommend measures to prevent such incidents in future. The commission is to submit its report to the Uttar Pradesh government within a month.
