The country celebrates National Education Day on November 11 every year. It is celebrated on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India. The day commemorates his efforts to promote primary and secondary education as well as scientific knowledge in India. He was a freedom fighter and educator.
‘National Education Day’ also emphasizes that it is important to shape the future of the country, encourage innovation and ensure that quality education is available to all citizens. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1992 for his outstanding contribution to education.
