Turkey-Syria Earthquake Today: Due to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday, 1472 people have died so far. More than 3,320 people have been injured in Turkey and Syria after an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale. So far 912 people have died in Turkey and 560 in Syria. Monday's earthquake is believed to be the most powerful in Turkey since a magnitude 7.9 earthquake that struck eastern Erzincan province in 1939, killing 33,000 people.
Turkey's Vice President Fuat Oktay said that so far more than 1,700 buildings have been destroyed and at least 78 consecutive earthquakes have been recorded after the initial tremors with a maximum magnitude of 6.6. 560 people lost their lives in Syria and more than a thousand people were injured.
The tremors of a powerful earthquake that occurred at 4.17 am at a depth of 17.9 km near the Turkish city of Gaziantep were also felt in Lebanon and Cyprus. The epicenter of the earthquake was in Pajarsik district of Kahramanmaras province.
