This is the coldest city in the world.  The mercury has reached minus 50 degree Celsius.  The city is a region of Siberia located in the far east of Russia.  The name is Yakutsk.  This city is located 5000 KM east of Moscow, the capital of Russia.  There is a lot of mining here.  The mercury usually stays at minus 40 degrees.
According to the news agency Reuters, a local woman Anastasia Gruzdeva said, "You can't fight it (cold).  You either adjust and dress accordingly or suffer."
"It doesn't really get cold in the city, or let's say the brain prepares you for that," said Gruzdeva, who lives in a city shrouded in snow haze.
According to other media reports, with no sign of end of cold in Yakutsk, the local people are apprehensive that it might affect the basic energy infrastructure of the city.  One resident told the Metro newspaper: "Pipes bursting, heating tanks bursting, everything frozen solid."  The local administration was not prepared for this situation at all.
