Mumbai Attack 2008: Today is the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in the year 2008. On 26 November 2008, 166 people were killed and many others were injured in terrorist attacks at various places in Mumbai. 10 Pakistani terrorists had carried out this attack by reaching Mumbai by sea. Ajmal Kasab was the only one among the attackers who could be caught alive. Kasab was hanged on 21 November 2012. But who were the masterminds of this attack and where are they today?
Hafiz Saeed, the head of terrorist organizations named Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jamaat-ud-Dawa, is said to be the mastermind of the 2008 attacks. In April 2020, Saeed was sentenced to 31 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan. The court had also ordered confiscation of his property and also imposed a fine on him. However, it has been claimed in several media reports that despite being sentenced by the court, Hafiz roams freely in Pakistan and also gives hate speeches.
Sajid Mir is also said to have played a major role in the Han attacks. America had placed a reward of $5 million on Mir. Mir was sentenced to 15 years in the terrorism financing case in June 2022 by Pakistan's Anti-Terrorism Court.
American-Pakistani citizen David Koman Headley was also involved in the conspiracy of this attack. He changed his name from Dawood Geelani to David Headley. Headley had made 5 visits to Mumbai. He shot those places with the camera where the attack could be done. Headley was arrested in the US in October 2009. On 10 December 2015, he turned approver. He was sentenced to 35 years for his role in the attacks.
