Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Friday on a two-day state visit aimed at further strengthening India's unique ties with Bhutan. "On my way to Bhutan where I will participate in a series of events aimed at further strengthening India-Bhutan partnership. I look forward to meeting the King of Bhutan, the 4th King of Bhutan and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay," Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X ahead of his arrival in Bhutan.

The visit was scheduled for March 21-22 but was postponed due to bad weather in Bhutan. The External Affairs Ministry had said in a statement earlier this week that the visit will provide an opportunity to both sides to exchange views on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest and to discuss ways to expand and strengthen our exemplary partnership for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
