World Poetry Day: March 21 is celebrated as World Poetry Day across the world. This day is dedicated to the celebration of literature with all forms of poetry. It is celebrated to recognize the importance of poetry and promote its use as a means of expression and communication. This day started being celebrated in the year 1999 on the initiative of UNESCO. UNESCO's message was - 'This day is to promote reading, writing, publishing and teaching poetry around the world and to give new identity and encouragement to the regional, national and international movement of poetry.'
The theme of World Poetry Day 2024 is 'Standing on Giant Shoulders'. This theme highlights the iconic writers of the past, whose writings have pioneered poetry in different cultures.
