Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that with the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019, the biometrics of 27 lakh people locked during updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be unlocked.
According to news agency PTI, biometrics of about 27 lakh people in the state were locked during updating the NRC and they were not able to get Aadhaar cards.
Speaking to the media on unlocking the biometrics data of 27 lakh people, Sarma said, "I will discuss the process with the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and other stakeholders and hope a solution will be found soon after the elections." Chief Minister Sarma admitted that due to blocking of biometrics, these people were facing many problems. Due to this, these people were not able to get ration cards, they were not able to get jobs. Sarma said that this issue will be raised in the administrative machinery of the government and a solution will be found.
