The Indian Navy is going to commission its newest survey vessel INS Sandhayak at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on 3 February 24. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar will be present on this occasion.
This ship has been built by M/s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. Apart from this, four more such survey ships will be built. This project will be operated by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy. All the testing and sea trials of Sandhyak have been done.
The primary role of a ship is to enable safe maritime navigation. To carry out full scale hydrographic survey of ports, navigation channels/routes, coastal areas and deep seas. Apart from this, this ship can carry out many types of naval operations.
The Naval Fleet is equipped with state-of-the-art hydrographic instruments including deep and shallow water multi-beam echo-sounders, autonomous underwater vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, side scan sonar, data acquisition and processing systems, satellite based positioning systems and terrestrial survey equipment.
