UGC has relaxed the rules for two programs.  The UGC notice said that keeping in mind the essential role played by Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social Worker in providing mental health services, the UGC has extended the validity of MPhil in Clinical Psychology and MPhil in Psychiatric Social Work only from the 2025-2026 academic session.  It has been decided to increase it up to.
According to this, students in these two programs will be given admission for two more academic sessions.  MPhil is a two-year program which introduces students to different methods and techniques of research and analysis.  In December 2023, the Commission reiterated that the MPhil degree will no longer be a recognized degree.  Higher education institutions were directed not to offer the MPhil programme, as the Commission had earlier announced that the Institutes of Advanced Research offered in all universities would no longer be valid.  Universities were instructed not to give admission to new students in MPhil for the academic year 2023-2024.
