Kerala gets first transgender lawyer. Padmalakshmi has become Kerala's first transgender lawyer. Padma was one of 1529 law graduates who were admitted as advocates on the roll of the Kerala Bar Council at the nomination ceremony held yesterday.
Padma wanted to become a lawyer since childhood. She graduated in Physics and then took admission in LLB. It was in her final year of LLB that she spoke to her parents about her identity. The family fully supported her to follow her chosen path.
Kerala Industry and Law Minister P Rajiv shared the news on his Facebook page to congratulate her. He wrote, “Congratulations to Padmalakshmi who overcame all difficulties in her life and became the first transgender lawyer in Kerala. Being first is still one of the hardest achievements in history. There must have been many obstacles along the way. There must have been people to silence and push back. Avoiding all this, Padmalakshmi has made her name in legal history.'
