Hindu Minority: Minority status to Hindus in 14 states and 3 union territories? Center sought extension from Supreme Court for the fourth time

The central government has once again sought time from the Supreme Court to complete its deliberations on the demands for minority status for Hindus in states where their numbers have fallen short of others.  The Center said that the matter is sensitive and it will have far-reaching implications.
 In its fourth affidavit filed on Monday (October 31) in response to petitions by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay and others, the Center said it has received comments from 14 states and three union territories on the issue so far and has referred the matter to other states.  A reminder has been sent to comment.
The Center said, “14 states Punjab, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, West Bengal, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and 3 union territories of Ladakh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman  and Diu and Chandigarh have submitted their comments/views.  At the same time, 19 State Governments/Union Territories have been asked to send their comments at the earliest so that it can be placed before the court.
